Fragile Violins

A String Library Made For Texture And Movement

Fragile Violins interface mockup with a flat black finish and articulation, Mix, Warp and Soma controls

Runs in the free Decent Sampler plugin · No Kontakt required

Strings That Feel Alive

Fragile Violins is a string library built around the small details of real performances: the movement of the bow, shifting harmonics, and the way musicians respond to one another.

Recorded with three violinists, every sample lasts at least 1.5 minutes. The players drift, react, and play off each other, giving held notes and chords room to evolve. That living movement is at the heart of the instrument, bringing character and tension to even a simple part.

Use your mod wheel to move the moon up and down, bringing out extra layers and textures.

Explore 12 articulations in three versions: the natural recordings, the unstable tape character of Warp, and the processed, synth-like textures of Soma. From intimate strings to unsettling soundscapes, Fragile Violins is made for compositions where texture is part of the storytelling.

Mix

This is a clean mix between the close mics and the Decca Tree to give you the most realistic and intimate sound.

Warp

For Warp, we ran all the samples through multiple tape decks at different speeds, some even broken. The end result is an interesting warbly sound with tonnes of attitude and texture.

Soma

For Soma, we ran all the samples through a modular rack and analogue delays. We added drive, some analogue filtering, and multiple delay lines that react to each other and constantly change speed, adding a lot of movement and interest to the sound.

Soma still feels human, but almost sounds like a synth.

What the pros say

“This sampler sounds fantastic.”

Amazing stuff. You’ve really hit it out of the parK.
Great recordings…not shrill, just the right amount of attack.

Sounds like you’ve got legato programming in there, but not totally sure, the envelopes are just perfect for playing right out of the box.

Articualtions all spot on.

Mod wheel control feels super playable..feels like it’s a mix of layer switching or subtle filter cutoff but again just right,

And the warp and soma controls whatever the fuck they are, feel exactly like the effect chain I might add to a library…
Pitch randomization, filtering, granular blooms. Whatever,…uh, they just sound great.

LOVE the interface!! Also love how clean the dry sound is and how rich the reverb is. The mod wheel works great! and goddam this is fun to play.

The mix actually is such a highlight. It sounds incredible right out the gate.

This is the only library I know of that is al about textural sounds but the strings are still fully playable,

Honestly, it’s incredible. The samples sound polished and hi-fi, but still have so much character. I especially love the Warp and Soma controls—you can create some really beautiful textures with them.

There are some seriously cool horror sounds in here too. Rituals is wicked.

This is my go-to library for textural writing and horror scoring. It feels incredibly inspiring to play.

More reviews

“A unique take on this kind of instrument.  I love the raw sound, the instability, the surprising little performances that make it come to life.  All of the patches are instantly inspiring, and it made me reach for different chords and sequences.”
Adrian Ellis
“As someone who relies heavily on strings in her writing, this library is incredible. It fits the bill for a series I am scoring right now and will become part of my repertoire for many future projects. The price point makes it a no brainer to purchase.”
